2025 Subaru Forester Introduces Advanced e-BOXER Hybrid Technology
February 12 2025,
Subaru advances its hybrid technology with the upcoming 2025 Forester e-BOXER Hybrid, introducing next-generation electrification to its popular SUV lineup. Revealed at the Chicago Auto Show and making its Canadian debut at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, this innovative model integrates a series-parallel hybrid system without compromising the brand's signature all-wheel-drive capability.
The 2025 Forester e-BOXER Hybrid represents a significant step in Subaru's electrification strategy. Pairing a newly developed 2.5-litre Atkinson-cycle BOXER engine with electric motors and a high-capacity lithium-ion battery, this powertrain delivers 194 total system horsepower while improving fuel economy compared to non-hybrid variants.
Superior Performance With Electrified Efficiency
The next-generation e-BOXER system works seamlessly with Subaru's symmetrical full-time All-Wheel Drive, maintaining the off-road capability Subaru owners expect. With 220 millimetres of ground clearance—exceeding many competitors in the SUV segment—the Forester e-BOXER Hybrid tackles challenging terrain while providing easy entry and exit for passengers.
Standard X-MODE with Hill Descent Control enhances the vehicle's capability on steep or slippery surfaces, while Active Torque Vectoring improves handling precision. The system intelligently distributes power using the electric motor, engine, or both depending on driving conditions, maximizing efficiency without sacrificing performance.
Advanced Technology And Connectivity
Inside the cabin, the 2025 Forester e-BOXER Hybrid features an 11.6-inch tablet-style infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. This central display controls audio, climate, and vehicle functions while providing high-resolution visuals. A new 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster offers additional customization options and can display navigation information, including Apple Maps.
The multimedia system supports over-the-air updates, ensuring the latest features remain available throughout ownership. SiriusXM Radio and SiriusXM Travel Link are included with trial subscriptions, expanding entertainment and information options for drivers and passengers.
Enhanced Safety Through Innovation
Safety takes center stage in the 2025 Forester e-BOXER Hybrid with the latest version of Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. This updated system operates more smoothly and quickly thanks to a wider field of view, improved control software, and an electric brake booster. It detects cyclists and pedestrians at intersections earlier, applying braking when necessary to prevent collisions.
The new Emergency Stop Assist feature adds another layer of protection, monitoring driver responsiveness during Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control operation. If the driver becomes unresponsive, the system stops the vehicle, activates hazard lights, unlocks doors, and connects with emergency services through SUBARU STARLINK Connected Services.
Additional standard safety features include Reverse Automatic Braking, Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, creating a comprehensive safety package that protects occupants and other road users.
The 2025 Subaru Forester e-BOXER Hybrid arrives at dealerships in spring 2025. Pricing and complete specifications will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
